Have you already seen the Colosseum, wandered through Trastevere, and taken a thousand photos in front of the Trevi Fountain? Perfect. Now it’s time to change the pace.
We invite you to discover a hidden gem that many people overlook: Palazzo Venezia (yes, it’s also known as the Venice Palace or Palazzo Barbo, depending on how local you want to feel).
Hop on the Rome City Tour bus, get off at the Piazza Venezia – Roman Forum stop… and get ready to discover the Rome that few people know!
At first glance, it may look like just another impressive building in the centre of Rome, but if you dare to step inside, you’ll discover that this place holds secrets you won’t find in tourist guides.
Located right in Piazza Venezia, one of the city’s most vibrant and chaotic squares, this palace feels like a time capsule. Inside, you’ll find Renaissance halls filled with art, quiet corridors that transport you to another era, and a museum that surprises visitors with both its collection and its calm atmosphere.
But that’s not all. This building was not only a papal residence and the Venetian embassy—it also became a centre of power during Fascist Italy. From its famous balcony, Mussolini delivered his speeches to the crowds gathered in the square.
So yes, this is a place where art, history and politics collide in a mix that’s as fascinating as it is unexpected.

What is Palazzo Venezia and why is it worth visiting?
Palazzo Venezia is an imposing building located north of the Capitoline Hill, right in the heart of Rome. It was built between 1455 and 1467 by order of the Venetian cardinal Pietro Barbo, who would later become Pope Paul II.
Architecturally, it is one of the first Renaissance civil residences in Rome: a blend of fortified palace and seat of power, a concept reflected in its façades, large windows and monumental structure.
It also houses the Museo Nazionale di Palazzo Venezia, featuring collections of sculpture, ceramics, tapestries and artworks ranging from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.

How to visit and where it’s located?
It is located right next to Piazza Venezia. From the square itself, you can step inside and feel its magic. It’s also very close to other must-see spots in Rome, which makes it easy to combine with nearby visits. We recommend going during less busy hours (for example, early in the morning) so you can enjoy its rooms more peacefully.
